Ranger Perception Study

​​To date, the majority of the empirical literature examining the human dimensions of conservation science has focused on the perceptions of local communities. Unfortunately, little is known about the attitudes and experiences of front-line rangers. This is a considerable gap given the dynamic and reciprocal nature of community-ranger relations. Additionally, little is known about the ranger job stress and job satisfaction, deviance, and community-ranger relations.  

​I am currently involved in the largest, in-depth study on front-line rangers ever completed. This multi-country, mixed-method study on examining front-line perceptions of rangers responsible for the management and monitoring of protected areas around the world. Data is currently being collected from a number of countries in Asia, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, to name a few. Data collection will begin in African and Latin American settings in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
